CFDA Awards

As you readers are well aware, I have an opinion on everything in the fashion industry, even the CDFA awards. The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards was in New York, awarding notable and (debatably) great designers. For my priorities, Raf Simons has won for Menswear designer of the year, winning both Menswear and Womenswear in the same year for Calvin Klein. (and Jil Sander AW12), only cementing his place as a fashion force. before only Calvin Klein, had taken both statues in 1993. Pat McGrath, the legend herself also received an award for her groundbreaking work in makeup.

Late Franca Sozzani, Virgil Abloh, Rick Owens and others were in the list for nominations and winners. The number of POC in the list is rather alarming, considering the number of non-white individuals who work in the industry (whom are underrepresented), but same shit, different year.

Nonetheless, it does remind that contributions to the arts and fashion comes internationally, with fashion talent not strictly from the US. I think it was a rather strong message about Trump’s stance towards immigration.

Here’s the list:

The Founder’s Award: Pat McGrath

Designer of the Year: Stuart Vevers for Coach
Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent: Laura Vassar and Kristopher Brock for Brock Collection

Menswear/ Womenswear Designer of the Year: Raf Simons for Calvin Klein

Inaugural Swarovski Award for Positive Change: Kenneth Cole
Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award: Rick Owens
CFDA awards Rick Owens
International Award: Demna Gvasalia for Vetements and Balenciaga
Board of Directors’ Tribute: Cecile Richards, Gloria Steinem and Janelle Monáe
Fashion Icon Award: Franca Sozzani, Italian Vogue editor-chief
